At Cygnus, our dedication lies in offering thorough assessments to aid individuals and families on their path to mental well-being. A key part of what we do is the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2) testing. This specialized evaluation is instrumental in helping gain a deep understanding and make accurate diagnoses of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in a thoughtful and detailed manner through one of our licensed, Board Certified Psychologists.
We also can provide diagnosis and testing for ADHD.
If you or a loved one are needing the ADOS-2 or/& testng for ADHD to be completed, please contact your medical provider to obtain a referral for services in the ADOS-2 &/or ADHD.
For any inquiries into the ADOS-2 & testing for ADHD, it is required that all inquiries have a referral from a Medical Doctor or a Pediatrician.
Cygnus Consulting's team of BCBAs and RBTs collaborate to provide direct care therapy services to children facing developmental and behavioral challenges with a progressive ABA therapy approach. Our aim is to encourage positive, adaptive behavior and independence by reinforcing positive behaviors and teaching functional life skills that can assist in promoting independence. We personalize our therapy sessions to the specific needs of each child and prioritize the growth and development of the children in our care.
Sometimes there are obstacles to coming into a center or a clinical treatment setting, but help is still available. Our Clinicians and Behavioral Technicians or Registered Behavioral Technicians can meet you over a HIPAA compliant connection provided remotely using telecommunications technology, such as video conferencing, allowing families and individuals to access healthcare from anywhere.
In situations where parents are waiting for the availability of a Registered Behavioral Technician (RBT) for Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy, opting for parent-led ABA emerges as a highly advantageous alternative. Empowering parents to actively engage in the therapeutic process, this approach fosters a collaborative environment to support their child's development promptly and within the familiarity of their natural surroundings. At Cygnus, we understand the critical importance of early intervention, and recognizing that the demand for RBTs may result in waiting periods, we offer parent-led ABA. This equips parents with the tools and skills needed to initiate positive changes in their child's behavior and development.
Our expert team provides comprehensive training and ongoing support, enabling seamless integration of ABA principles into daily routines. By embracing parent-led ABA, families actively contribute to their child's progress, creating a nurturing environment that promotes skill acquisition and behavior reduction even before a dedicated RBT is available.
If your child is struggling with Dyscalculia, Dyslexia, or Dysgraphia, Cygnus offers tailored and effective support. We use evidence-based techniques, such as Direct Instruction and Precision Learning, to help children improve their academic and social skills.
Direct Instruction involves breaking down complex skills into smaller, more manageable steps and providing direct and explicit instruction to help children learn. Precision Learning uses data-driven techniques to identify each child's unique strengths and weaknesses, allowing us to tailor our therapy to their individual needs. Our experienced BCBAs & RBTs work closely with parents to ensure that progress is being made both in therapy and at home.
Contact us today to learn more about how our ABA can provide the tailored and effective support your child needs to achieve success in school and beyond. Our teams are dedicated to helping each child with Dyscalculia, Dyslexia, or Dysgraphia reach their full potential.
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a type of therapy that can be very helpful for people with sleep disorders. ABA therapists use scientific methods to understand how a person's behavior affects their sleep, and then create a treatment plan to help improve their sleep habits. This might include things like creating a relaxing bedtime routine, teaching relaxation techniques, and adjusting the person's sleep schedule. By using ABA, people with sleep disorders can learn new behaviors and habits that will help them get the restful sleep they need to feel their best.
*All sleep consults require a referral and clearance from a Pediatrician (for children & teens) or a Family Practice MD (for adults & teens) first before Cygnus can assist*
Behavior Analysts use a personalized approach to help people who have difficulty eating. They start by observing eating behaviors during mealtime, such as the types and amounts of food consumed and eating pace, and then develop a step-by-step plan to modify these behaviors. The plan may include rewarding positive eating habits, gradually introducing new foods, or making changes to the feeding environment. The goal is to help the individual develop healthy and positive feeding habits that can be sustained over the long term. By using this approach, Cygnus Consulting can help individuals overcome feeding difficulties and improve their overall quality of life.
*All sleep consults require a referral and clearance from a Pediatrician (for children & teens)*
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a type of behavioral therapy that helps individuals increase their psychological flexibility by accepting their thoughts and feelings, rather than avoiding or trying to change them, and committing to taking action towards their values.
As a parent, there are times when you don't necessarily need ongoing in-home sessions for your family and child, but you are aware that you would benefit from some clinical recommendations and guidance that will help you. Cygnus Consulting can provide Parent Consulting for parents &/or guardians that need that level of clinical support in and out of your home.
We are also willing to help become an educational advocate for your child in their school. We can attend your child's IEP or 504 meetings and talk to the school as needed in order to help provide the best possible outcome for your child during their school year.
An social skills group can help children from preschool through pre-teenage years improve their social skills.
Just as with the teens and young adults, ABA is a way of understanding and changing behavior that is based on the idea that behaviors have consequences. By reinforcing good behaviors, we can encourage them to happen more often.
In a social skills group, trained Technicians will use ABA techniques designed by a Clinician to teach and practice important skills like taking turns, following rules, and making friends. These skills will help the children in the group feel more confident and successful in social situations, both at home and at school.

Individuals transitioning from teenage to young adulthood may have unique difficulties in adulting skills such as filing taxes, budgeting, vocational skills and dating.
Cygnus Consulting offers skill building activities to help guide individuals diagnosed with Autism through the transition into adulthood.

CANVAS BEHAVIORAL ANALYTIC ART CURRICULUM is a program designed by artist Natasha Bouchillon, M.S, BCBA that uses art to teach social skills and improve behavior. It is based on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), which is a way of understanding and changing behavior.
This program is designed to help children to young adults learn important skills like communication, problem-solving, and teamwork through the use of art activities. With CANVAS BEHAVIORAL ANALYTIC ART CURRICULUM, students can have fun and express themselves creatively while also learning valuable skills that will help them succeed in school and in life.
At Cygnus Consulting, we can help with teaching people vocational soft skills through the use of ABA. Vocational soft skills are non-technical abilities and personal qualities crucial for workplace success. They extend beyond academic and technical knowledge, emphasizing interpersonal skills, communication, problem-solving, teamwork, adaptability, time management, and more. These skills are highly valued by employers for their positive impact on job performance and the ability to excel in a professional setting.
Cygnus Consultants uses treatment that follows the standards of Progressive ABA. Progressive ABA is a dynamic and evidence-based approach to behavior change that is tailored to the needs and progress of the individual. Progressive ABA uses a systematic yet flexible approach, drawing on the latest research and a thorough understanding of foundational principles to provide personalized and compassionate intervention. This approach is guided by ongoing assessments and is grounded in scientific principles, socially valid, and constantly evolving.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a behavioral treatment approach which aims to help individuals live more fulfilling lives by accepting and managing their thoughts, feelings, and experiences.
It is based on the idea that psychological suffering often stems from a lack of acceptance of certain thoughts and emotions, and that this suffering can be relieved by learning to be present with these thoughts and emotions in a non-judgmental way.
ACT is connected to two other approaches: Relational Frame Theory (RFT) and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). It can be helpful for those who wish to make changes in their lives and live in a way that aligns with their values and goals.
ABA, Direct Instruction, and Precision Learning can be very helpful for teachers in the classroom.
Direct Instruction is a teaching approach where the teacher leads students through a lesson step-by-step. It is a way of teaching that focuses on building skills through structured practice. Direct Instruction is often used when introducing a new concept or skill.
Precision Learning is a type of Direct Instruction that helps students build skills in a very precise and systematic way. It breaks down tasks into smaller parts and teaches each part before putting them all together.
By using ABA techniques, teachers can create a better learning environment for their students. Direct Instruction and Precision Learning are good for teaching specific skills and concepts and can help students learn effectively. These approaches can be especially helpful for students who benefit from structured, explicit instruction.

The ADOS-2, or Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, is similar to a standardized test that helps doctors figure out if someone might have Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). It was made by experts who know a lot about Autism, and it's used by professionals like psychologists to check for signs of Autism in people of different ages.
During an ADOS-2 test, the person being evaluated, called the participant, and the examiner do various activities together. These activities are designed to see how the person communicates and interacts with others. The test looks at things like social skills, how they talk and play, and if they have any repetitive behaviors. There are different versions of the test for different age groups, making it versatile for different situations.
The results of the ADOS-2 help doctors understand if the observed behaviors match up with what is typically seen in people with autism. It's an important part of the process to figure out if someone has autism or not, but it's not the only thing doctors look at. The ADOS-2 is part of a bigger picture that includes talking with the person and their family, checking their developmental history, and using other tests to get a full understanding.
The ADOS-2, or Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, is a diagnostic tool calibrated for diverse age groups, ensuring precision in identifying Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) across the developmental spectrum. Picture it as a sophisticated instrument with different modules, each finely tuned to the unique needs and capabilities of toddlers, children, adolescents, and adults.
Consider the ADOS-2 as a nuanced lens applied during an evaluation. For a toddler, the focus might be on early social interactions, while for a teenager, it could involve more complex social scenarios. The test adapts to the linguistic and cognitive levels of each age bracket, recognizing that the way a toddler engages with the world is vastly different from how a teenager does.
This tailored approach enhances the sensitivity of the ADOS-2, ensuring that the assessment is age-appropriate and capable of capturing the subtleties of behavior indicative of ASD. Essentially, it's a sophisticated means of ensuring that the assessment is finely tuned to the unique developmental nuances of each individual, offering a comprehensive and accurate understanding of their social communication and behavioral traits.
In order to determine if the ADOS-2 is covered by your insurance, your insurance will need to be contacted to see if the ADOS-2 will be covered. If it is, please have your insurance contact us or provide us with some information that it has been approved for testing through our agency.
If you do not have access to medical coverage through your insurance company for testing for the ADOS, Cygnus will still be able to test for Autism. If it is not covered, we will typically charge between $1000-2500, depending on the age range and type of ADOS-2 we will be using. We will require a non-refundable deposit in advance of 50% of the cost of the test to be paid at the time of scheduling and all testing must be scheduled 30 days in advance.
The typical observation that is needed is between 30 min to 1 hour in length.
Please contact Katie Schabel, our Office Manager, for scheduling for the ADOS-2 and she will obtain your initial information and pass it along to one of our BCBAs and she can be contacted at schabelk@hotmail.com. The Psychologist that will be possibly assigned to perform the testing, will then contact you and complete an initial pre-screen to determine the type of ADOS-2 that will be used and schedule a day to be able to meet with you or the individual that is being tested.
The typical observation that is needed is typically 1 hour in length, so please ensure to book enough time to allow you to be have as accurate of observation as possible for your results during your clinical review later of the results.
Yes, BCBAs can test and complete the report for the ADOS-2, however, it will need to be reviewed and signed off to provide an official diagnosis by either a PhD or LLP level Psychologist or a MD to agree with the results of the observation from the BCBA.

If you are a parent or guardian that is contacting Cygnus for an educational consult and during your time with us you believe as a parent that your child would possibly benefit from having a Registered Behavioral Technician (RBT) or a Behavioral Technician (BT) with them during school hours to help reduce the chances of them being expelled or suspended and to help reinforce any skills that their school team and you are trying to teach them, you are welcome to discuss this with us as an option for us to place a RBT or BT with them during school hours and will meet with you and your school IEP team to discuss this and the possible benefits for this. We can even discuss if it is possible to have the school district help offset the costs for this placement, if needed.
At times, parents find themselves awaiting the availability of a Registered Behavioral Technician (RBT) for Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy. In such instances, considering parent-led ABA presents itself as an incredibly beneficial choice. Parent-led ABA empowers parents to engage actively in the therapeutic process, promoting a collaborative approach to nurturing their child's development. This proactive approach guarantees that intervention is not postponed, facilitating the prompt implementation of evidence-based techniques within the familiar context of the child's everyday environment.
If parent-led ABA is a viable option for you while you wait for a RBT, do not hesitate to reach out to talk to us about assisting you as an alternative for your family.
Please reach us at in the Contact section if you have any further questions!
